WoW Forever pet stable guide

WoW Forever Stable Masters store a pet for later while you use or tame another. Dismiss Pet frees your active slot, but capacity is unconfirmed.

WoW Forever Stable Masters store pets for later while you use or tame another pet. You only have one pet out at a time, so dismiss or stable the current one before you tame a new beast.

The important difference is storage. A stable is the supported way to keep a pet for later use. The Forever sources reviewed here do not confirm stable capacity, so do not rely on a slot count borrowed from another version of WoW.

How do pet stables work in WoW Forever?

Wowhead's Forever hunter page describes Stable Masters as storing pets for later use while the hunter uses or tames another pet. That makes the stable the sensible option for a companion you want to keep but do not want active right now.

It is particularly useful when you are trying a new family, keeping a rare, or temporarily taming a beast for an ability. The tame finder can help you choose the next pet, but do not replace a pet you care about until you have dealt with the one already at your side.

Where do you find a Stable Master?

The supported Forever sources for this guide confirm what Stable Masters do, but they do not provide a current list of their locations. That means this site cannot give you a verified city-by-city list yet.

In the beta, use the local city help and the map rather than assuming every location from Retail or Classic is unchanged. If the game gives you a Stable Master option, use it to store the pet you plan to come back to.

Do you need to stable your current pet before taming another one?

You need to make the current pet no longer active before you tame another beast. The site guide says a hunter can only have one pet out and should dismiss or stable it before taming a new creature.

Stabling is the safer choice for a pet you intend to keep. It is also what Petopia's Forever training guide recommends before you tame a temporary beast to learn an ability. See learn abilities from a temporary pet before you start that process, because the temporary tame has a job and your regular pet should not be the thing you risk losing.

Is Dismiss Pet the same as putting a pet in the stable?

No, not in the way that matters when you want to preserve a pet for later. Dismiss Pet clears the active pet, while the stable is the feature the Forever hunter page identifies as storage for later use.

The current sources do not fully document the beta's labels or the result of every dismissal choice. Do not treat a dismissal command as stable storage. If you want the pet later, use a Stable Master.

How many pets can you keep in the Forever beta?

That is not confirmed by the supported Forever sources. There is no verified beta stable-slot count in the sources for this post, so this guide will not repeat a number from another game version.

The October 1 beta notes do show that stables are an active part of the beta interface: the pet stable interface received an update for gamepad support, and the Stables frame art changed. Those notes do not say that storage capacity changed.

What happens to a pet while it is stabled?

The supported description is simple: the pet is stored for later use. The sources do not promise a timer, training behavior, or any other extra stable effect, so do not plan around one.

Keep a pet when it fills a role you expect to use again. That can mean a rare you camped, a family ability you like, or a companion you simply want to keep. For leveling recommendations, read pets worth keeping; for rare options worth preserving, see the Forever rares.
