What changed
What Forever changed.
Training points and feeding work the way they did in Classic. The changes are in how strong a pet stays at 60 and which pets you can tame early.
- 01
You get your pet at 10
Same as Classic. Until then you have auto shot, plus Raptor Strike when something reaches you.
- 02
You can tame two levels up
Testers say this is on purpose. Coldrasp is 12 and hunters tame him at 10. He stays 12. One report has a level 20 hunter taming a 21 scorpid while a 22 refused, so do not count on it for every beast yet.
- 03
Pets scale with you
Every point of your Stamina gives the pet 2 health. It gets 30% of your armor, 10% of your attack power and all of your crit chance. Late game pets should stop falling behind.
- 04
Attack speed is per beast
The base is 2.0, but single creatures can carry passives like Faster Attack 6 (+67%) or Slower Attack II (-20%). Two wolves from the same pack can swing at very different speeds. Check the pet's attack speed before you tame.
- 05
Abilities still come from other beasts
Training points and ranks are still here. You learn a rank by taming a beast that knows it, then teach it to anything in a family that can use it.
Claw 3 needs pet level 16, for example. - 06
Feed it
Happiness and loyalty are still in. Every family has a diet. Bears and boars eat everything, and turtles take raw fish.
11 families
Ferocity
The damage spec. Most families live here, and it is where you look if you want mobs to die faster while you shoot.
5 families
Cunning
Control and utility. Slows, bleeds, charges and dodges. The spec for kiting and for PvP.
The stable
The whole stable.
Seventeen families carry over from Classic. Foxes are new, and Core Hounds are listed but nobody has reached one yet. Pick a family to see every look it comes in and where to find it.

Forever rares
The one everyone's camping.
New rares with looks nobody could tame in vanilla. Coldrasp is the famous one. Bring patience and a /target macro.

Coldrasp
The spectral blue wolf from vanilla, and the most camped rare in the beta. You can tame him at 10 and he stays 12. He has at least two spawn points and seems to patrol between them. You do not need to clear the wolves around the ring. One tester got him right at a server reset. Layering makes the timer hard to pin down, so bring something to do.
Furious Howl 1- Faster Attack 3 (+33% attack speed)

Attack speed
1.2
Check before you tame.
Every pet starts at a 2.0 swing, but single beasts can carry a speed passive. Two wolves from the same pack can hit at very different speeds, and the fast ones do more damage. The fastest testers have found so far swing at 1.2.
Sort every beast by attack speed| Passive | Effect | |
|---|---|---|
| Faster Attack 6 | +67% | Rake (Mulgore), Slavering Worg (Shadowfang Keep), both at 1.2 |
| Faster Attack 5 | +54% | A tester's tallstrider |
| Faster Attack 3 | +33% | Coldrasp, at 1.5 |
| Increased Attackspeed 2 | +25% | Mystmane, at 1.6 |
| Slower Attack II | -20% | Urs'anah, a bear on Zephras Isle |

New family
Foxes.
A brand new family. The vuldren and slyverns around the Skyborne zones are tagged as foxes, though a few are coded as wolves right now.
Trickster's Dance
Raises the pet's dodge chance by 50% and cuts the time between its attacks by 30% for 12 seconds.
