The level 30 Forever beta build gives hunters three things to know. Aggressive Mode is back for pets, Blizzard says the bug that made pets forget abilities is fixed, and two talents changed. The cap is now 30, and the new dungeon adds a batch of crocolisks, raptors and turtles to the Forever database.
Everything here comes from the 1 October patch notes and our own Forever data. Blizzard took the beta down for another build on 8 October, so some of this may change again.
What did the level 30 build change for hunters?
The cap goes up to 30, and there is one new dungeon, Excavation Site: Wetlands, for levels 26 to 31. Razorfen Downs (25+) and Uldaman (30+) open as well.
| Change | What the notes say |
|---|---|
| Aggressive Mode | Back, under the pet tab in your spellbook |
| Pet ability ranks | Beasts that came with ranks too high for their level are fixed |
| Sniper Shot (Marksmanship) | 45 yard range, and your next 3 shots within 10 sec get 10 more yards |
| Deflection (Survival) | Parry bonus is now 1/2/3/4/5%, down from 2/4/6/8/10% |
| Icons | Improved Stings and Predator's Edge look more like Vanilla |
| Stables | New frame art, and the stable works with a gamepad |
Is Aggressive Mode back for hunter pets?
Yes. The notes say Aggressive Mode "has been brought back and can be found under the pet tab in your spell book." Warlock pets get it back too. If you leveled without it, look in the spellbook's pet tab.
Did Blizzard fix pets forgetting abilities?
On paper, yes. The developers' note says some tameable beasts had "ranks of pet abilities that were too high level for that creature," that they "have all been fixed," and that this was why a pet could forget an ability.
That is the bug behind most of our known taming bugs. Nobody testing has confirmed the fix yet, so we still list those bugs as open.
Which tames had that bug?
Four Zephras Isle beasts match it in our tester reports:
- Shadowgale Ursera is tameable at 11 but comes with
Claw 3, which needs 16. Tame it early and it loses Claw 3 on dismiss or logout. - Shadowgale Shriekling loses
Savage Rend 1 on dismiss or logout. - Ornery Galestrider loses
Dust Cloud 1 the same way. - Mystmane, the level 13 rare bear. The first tester to tame him got Savage Rend 1 and then lost it.
The notes don't name the beasts Blizzard fixed or say which ranks changed. We can't tell you if these four are on that list, or whether the Ursera still shows up with Claw 3. If you tame one on the new build, dismiss it, log out, and check the spellbook when you're back.
What happened to Sniper Shot and Deflection?
Sniper Shot, the 31 point Marksmanship talent, now has a 45 yard range. It also adds 10 yards to the range of your next 3 shots, as long as you fire them within 10 seconds.
Deflection, the Survival parry talent, is cut in half. Each rank now gives 1% parry instead of 2%, so five ranks top out at 5%.
Which new beasts can you find at level 30?
The new dungeon is where most of them are. Our Forever data puts these in Excavation Site: Wetlands, all new to Forever:
| Beast | Family | Level | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Highland Tortoise | Turtle | 26 | Also out in the Wetlands |
| Elder Crocolisk | Crocolisk | 27 | Elite |
| Highland Spider | Spider | 27-28 | Also out in the Wetlands |
| Highland Snapper | Turtle | Not listed yet | Elite |
| Marsh Crocolisk, Young Crocolisk | Crocolisk | Not listed yet | |
| Marsh Skulker | Crocolisk | Not listed yet | Elite |
| Thicket Hunter, Lurker, Matriarch and Stalker | Raptor | Not listed yet | Elite |
| Young Riptooth | Raptor | Not listed yet |
Our data doesn't say whether you can tame these inside the dungeon, so check in game before you plan around one. The tortoise and the spider also spawn in the open Wetlands, which makes them the easy ones.
Ruins of Lordaeron, a dungeon that was already open, now lists six new spiders, Broodwidow and Deep Widow among them. None has a level in the data yet.
Two more beasts landed in Riverglades: Wildplains Patriarch, a level 39 cat, and Ghostmaw, a level 42 elite crocolisk. Both sit well above the cap, so they're for a later build.
What should hunters do now?
Put Aggressive Mode back on your bar, and retest any pet that lost an ability before. To see everything in the new zones, filter the tame finder by zone or family. Crocolisks get
Dismember and spiders get
Web, both covered in the new pet abilities post. For the camps worth your evening, see the rare hunter pets page.
