Camp Ghostfang first. He respawns in about 30 minutes and gives you an icy blue cat at level 10. Coldrasp is the one worth a long camp, because he brings Faster Attack 3. Mystmane is a gamble right now, and Slydris and Nightscreech can wait until their bugs are fixed.
This post gives a verdict on each rare. For the full list with spawn maps, use the rares page.
Which rare hunter pets are worth camping in WoW Forever?
| Rare | Level | Respawn reports | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ghostfang | 10, cat | About 30 minutes | Camp first |
| Coldrasp | 12 rare elite, wolf | 2.5 to 9 hours | Worth it for the passive |
| Mystmane | 13, bear | Anywhere from minutes to hours | Wait for the fix |
| Nightscreech | Rare owl | Unclear | Only if you want the look |
| Slydris | Rare fox | Unclear, sometimes 12+ hours | Skip for now |
The levels matter. You get your pet at 10, and Blizzard's 24 September beta notes say Tame Beast no longer works on beasts higher than you. So a level 12 rare needs a level 12 hunter.
How long is the respawn for each rare?
Nobody has a timer you can trust except for Ghostfang. Layering hides the real number, so every report comes from one tester on one layer.
- Ghostfang: about 30 minutes, the shortest in our data.
- Coldrasp: testers report 2.5 to 9 hours on one layer. One got him right at a server reset.
- Mystmane: reports on Wowhead range from 11 to 15 minutes to a claimed strict 3 hours. One tester killed bears for 12 hours and never saw him.
- Nightscreech: one tester waited ten minutes, others camped for hours.
- Slydris: one tester camped over 12 hours with no spawn. Another found it right after a server restart.
Server restarts come up twice. If you can log in right after one, check your rare first.
Is Coldrasp worth the wait?
Yes, if you want a fast wolf at level 12. Coldrasp is a level 12 rare elite in the Whispering Forest corner of Tirisfal Glades. He comes with
Furious Howl 1 and Faster Attack 3, which adds 33% attack speed, and he swings at 1.5. That is more than the +25% Mystmane gets. He also wears the spectral blue wolf skin.
The cost is time. Bring something to do. The Coldrasp spawn location guide covers the camp in detail.
For what that 1.5 swing and Faster Attack 3 mean beside other pets, see the WoW Forever hunter pet attack speed guide.
Is Mystmane worth taming, and does he keep Savage Rend?
Not yet. Mystmane is a level 13 rare bear in Shadowgale Forest on Zephras Isle, near the giant fallen tree. He comes with Increased Attackspeed 2 (+25%) and swings at 1.6. Commenters on Wowhead say he can spawn wherever a Shadowgale Ursera spawns, and they give points such as 60.0, 33.5 and 59.3, 37.3.
The problem is
Savage Rend. The first tester to tame him got Savage Rend 1 and lost it. Blizzard's level 30 notes on 1 October say beasts with ability ranks too high for their level are fixed. Testers do not agree yet. One Wowhead commenter tamed him after the 1 October update and still lost Rend on relog. Another, on 8 October, says Mystmane no longer has Savage Rend at all and comes with
Swipe 1 instead. Treat both as single reports.
If you want him for the attack speed, go ahead. If you want him for Rend, wait for the next build.
Is Ghostfang the easiest rare to get?
Yes. Ghostfang is a level 10 rare cat in Dun Morogh, on the hill before the tunnel to the Wetlands. He comes with no abilities, so you train him yourself. The icy blue skin was not tameable in vanilla. With a respawn of about 30 minutes, he is the cheapest new look in the beta.
Are Nightscreech and Slydris worth camping?
Not right now.
Nightscreech is a rare owl in Teldrassil on the same model as Hellhoot. It comes with no abilities. At 10, one tester's had 274 health, 605 armor and 19 to 26 damage. Testers report it cannot learn Screech yet, and a bug report is in. Camp it for the look, and expect to wait.
Slydris is the gold vuldren fox on Zephras Isle, and it is confirmed tameable. Its training window only offers
Bite 2 and it cannot learn
Growl. Testers also report that vuldren foxes cannot be taught through Beast Training. A pet that cannot Growl is a hard sell for leveling. Wait for a fix.
What about Shadowgale Ursera and Ukorsbane?
Neither is a rare. Shadowgale Ursera is a common level 10 to 11 bear on Zephras Isle. You can tame it at 11, but it comes with
Claw 3, which needs level 16, and it loses Claw 3 on dismiss or logout. Blizzard's 1 October notes say over-ranked abilities like this are fixed, but testers have not confirmed it. See Shadowgale Ursera for the current state, and the Zephras Isle pets post for the rest of the island.
Ukorsbane is a level 8 spider in Durotar. Our roster lists it as an elite, not a rare, and we have no tame or respawn data for it yet.
Which rare should you camp first?
- Ghostfang, because 30 minutes is cheap.
- Coldrasp, if you have an evening and want Faster Attack 3.
- Mystmane, once testers confirm the ability fix.
If you would rather not camp at all, search the tame finder for a common beast with the look or ability you want, and read the hunter guide for how taming works in Forever.
